What Does It Mean to Prepare the Way of the Lord?

FHOP is a forerunner ministry. We are as John the Baptist was for Jesus: Called to prepare the way of the Lord and help others to do so as well (John 1:23). But what does this mean practically?

Preparing the way for Jesus starts with making room for Him in our hearts, removing those obstacles and hindrances in our souls and lives which could hinder our relationship with Him and doing the work of His Kingdom.

Preparing the way for Him also means preparing the way for His second coming. Christ is coming back for a Bride made ready for Him and expectant for His return.

John called the people to repentance—to turn from sinful choices and lifestyles—because this was a necessary step in making the way clear for Jesus (Matthew 3:1-12).

“Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people… Gather out the stones. Lift up a standard… over and for the peoples. Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: …Behold, your salvation comes [in the person of the Lord]…” Isaiah 62:10-11 (AMPC)

How Do We Fulfill This Assignment?

Our mission and passion is to firstly minister to the Lord in worship because He is good. We make known His worth as we exalt Him above all else in our lives.

Going through gates is mentioned is Isaiah 62:10. In Isaiah 60:18 the gate is named “Praise.” We make His heart known as we praise Him, singing out our reasons for blessing His name. We tell again and again of His goodness and provision for our freedom from sin.

As people hear His truth proclaimed in worship, the knowledge of that truth can bring them to freedom in Christ as they experience salvation, healing, and deliverance (John 8:32).

Secondly, we intercede for people to make room for Him in their hearts and lives. We pray for any obstacles to relationship with Father God to be moved out of the way. These can include hindrances that affect the individual or an entire community.

Finally, we do this through training in God’s Word and ways. Our aim is to equip others to:

  • Pursue an unhindered relationship with God both in personal intimacy.
  • Partner with Him in expanding His Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.
  • Join us in preparing the way for His return.

At times this involves discipleship through teaching and preaching, or it may involve reaching the lost with God’s truth and love. It also involves healing of the body, soul and spirit such as through praying for one another or personal inner healing ministry.

We are a spiritual family seeking to help people clear the way for the Lord in their hearts as well as preparing the way for His second coming for a pure and spotless Bride.

“..I am the voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness… ‘Prepare the way of the Lord…’” John 1:23 (AMPC)
